Fencing Youth Chicago

Giving back through fencing

Fencing is more than just a sport, it’s a developmental tool that carries great benefits for the growth of young children.

Fencing is About you.

  • Fencing helps your body physically as well as your brain mentally
  • Fencing helps develop your coordination, speed and balance
  • Fencing helps develop your abstract thinking through the combination of strategy, speed, timing, distance, and stretch
  • Fencing is an independent sport and makes you more self-reliant and promote self-confidence
  • Fencing is a team sport, and will help you foster sportsmanship and social awareness
  • Fencing is a team sport, and will help you foster sportsmanship and social awareness
  • Fencing helps you understand to celebrate victory, but you must also accept defeat and learn from it
  • First, it’s not familiar as football, soccer, or baseball – for the obvious fact that, you just can’t pick up a fencing blade and play with the kid next door. Not everyone owns a fencing blade, and you really do need specialize equipment to fence.
  • Second, although some people say fencing is not expensive, the truth is – It does cost! Many kids can’t afford to just “try” fencing.
  • Third, many kids just don’t have access to a place to go fence, and/or other fencers that they can fence with! You really can’t just go to the neighborhood park!

you ask Why.

Living in the city, you often hear two things affecting kids – Youth Crime and Youth Mental Health.
This is more than an inspired school service requirement. This has become more than just a cause.

Our Mission:
Youth Fencing Chicago (YFC) was created because we recognize that fencing is a unique sport that can have tremendous impact on kid’s mind and how they think. We see this as an opportunity to use fencing as a developmental tool to help the kids in Chicago communities who would normally not get a chance to benefit from this sport.
YFC is youth-led and youth-focused and will work with schools and organizations in Chicago to assist them with resources and access to fencing.

Impacting Communities.
